Nissan Tekton: New Five-Seater Mid-Size SUV Planned for India
Nissan is preparing to enter India’s competitive mid-size SUV market with a brand-new five-seater model. Built on the CMF-B platform, the same architecture that supports the upcoming Renault Duster, this new SUV promises its own bold exterior and interior identity.

The upcoming model, officially named the Nissan Tekton, will make its public debut in early February 2026. Once launched, it will be the second major product announcement after the Nissan Gravite and will mark another important step in the company’s renewed strategy to strengthen its position in India. Production is set to take place at Nissan’s Chennai manufacturing facility, with the Tekton designed specifically for the needs and preferences of Indian buyers.
Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd, recently confirmed that 2026 will be a turning point for the brand, with three new models scheduled to arrive within just 16 months. These new launch plans reflect Nissan’s commitment to expanding its presence in India’s passenger vehicle market and rebuilding customer confidence.
Exterior Design and Styling
The name “Tekton,” derived from Greek and meaning “craftsman” or “architect,” reflects the SUV’s strong character and design philosophy. Early sketches and visual previews suggest a muscular stance inspired by the iconic Nissan Patrol. Wide wheel arches, an elevated profile, and a sculpted bonnet add to its road presence.
The front fascia features C-shaped headlamps stretching across the width of the vehicle, complemented by a robust bumper design. Other highlights include Double-C detailing on the side profile, integrated roof rails, and a neat roof spoiler. At the rear, extended C-shaped taillamps flow across the tailgate, paired with bold Tekton lettering, giving the SUV a refined and modern finish.
Interiors and Features
While Nissan has not revealed the full cabin layout, the Tekton is expected to offer a premium interior experience. It may share certain layout elements with the India-bound Renault Duster, although Nissan has emphasised that the Tekton will not be a badge-engineered product. A more upscale design approach, richer materials, and differentiated technology are likely.
Key features may include:
-
A large touchscreen infotainment system
-
Connected car technology
-
Wireless smartphone integration
-
Multiple drive modes
ADAS features are yet to be confirmed, but given the growing adoption across this segment, Nissan may reveal more advanced safety technologies closer to launch.
Powertrain and Engine Options
The Nissan Tekton is expected to launch with petrol engine options similar to the upcoming Duster range. Although detailed specifications have not been announced, Nissan is likely to introduce electrified variants within the first year of sales. Mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid petrol units are possible, expanding the model’s appeal to buyers focused on economy.
Nissan may also offer a CNG option at a later stage, potentially through authorised dealer-installed kits, further increasing accessibility for value-driven customers.
Market Outlook
With rising consumer interest in utility vehicles and an expanding mid-size SUV segment, the Tekton arrives at an opportune moment. Nissan aims to leverage its proven CMF-B platform, strong global design language, and renewed India product strategy to build market momentum.
As anticipation builds ahead of its official reveal in February 2026, the Tekton is positioned to become a key player in Nissan’s Indian portfolio and a strong contender in its segment.
